Fertile Ground is a registered charity based here in the Comox Valley that was established in 2003 to provide educational and technical support to farmers, small-scale tea growers and self-help groups in northeast India. Their resource centre and organic demonstration garden now provides full-time employment for 4 people from a small town in Assam. The project also offers volunteer opportunities for interested Canadians, including students from Camosun College’s Environmental Technology program, who have earned credits towards their degree by helping out in the garden and assisting with training and special events.
